How to Make Gelato without an Ice Cream Maker

  • To prepare a tasty homemade gelato without the help of an ice cream maker, start by pouring the chilled cream from the refrigerator into a bowl. Whip the cream until stiff peaks form.
  • Gradually add the condensed milk to the same bowl of cream, then gently fold it in using a spatula, lifting from the bottom to the top to avoid deflating the mixture. Add the liquor and vanilla extract to the bowl, and mix well once again.
  • At this point, the homemade gelato is practically assembled, but it needs to be stored in the freezer for at least 6 hours. Transfer the mixture to a suitable container and let it freeze.
  • After the time has passed, our gelato without an ice cream maker is ready. Remove it from the freezer a few minutes before serving and decorate with a glaze, cookies, or ice cream cones. The texture will be wonderfully creamy, isn't it easy?

Tips and Conservation

It's preferable to consume the homemade gelato within 1-2 weeks. Custom Flavors:
  • Fruit Gelato: Add 600 g (21 oz) of pureed fruit to the recipe, strained through a sieve before using it for the gelato.
  • Chocolate Gelato: Add approximately 70 g (2.47 oz) of sifted cocoa powder to the condensed milk, then fold in the whipped cream.
  • Coffee Gelato: Dissolve 8 teaspoons of instant coffee in a couple of tablespoons of warmed cream. Let it cool completely before adding it to the condensed milk and whipped cream.
  • Stracciatella Gelato: Add 150 g (5.29 oz)  of chopped dark chocolate chips or flakes.
